316 Bar & Bistro at Ramada Resort Port Douglas

LUNCH One of our favourite restaurants over the years  but I am afraid it is slipping. The Karaage Chicken Burger $28 was woeful, no texture, no taste and an awful bun.   Battered Fish & Chips $28 One of the most consistently good fish & chips in Port Douglas Earlier this year I voted it 8.9 out of 10 (there has never been a 9 out of 10) and this time it dropped to a 7, just slightly overcooked. The drinks This has not been as straight forward as it should be, now and in the past. A beer, glass of red, a bottle of white and 2 glasses. This time we ended up with an extra glass of white?  To make the staff member feel better, I apologised  and just paid the bill. We did not take the extra glass of white but were billed an extra $4? $40 So, when we feel like spending $117 on lunch again  we will give some extra thought as to where that will be? Dining out in such a famous tourist town should be a pleasant experience and after living here for...

RESTAURANT IN THE REEF at Reef Resort Villas, 121 - 137 Port Douglas Road, Port Douglas

LUNCH FISH & CHIPS Battered Barramundi, chips, green salad, lemon & tartare $26 CAJUN CHICKEN SALAD Cajun Chicken, mixed greens, tomato, cucumber, onion, potato crisps, sweet soy mayo. $25 Add Avo $5 Washed down with a Super Crisp tin $9, a bottle of Queen Snapper 2025 Sauvignon Blanc $40 (10% discount on drinks for Reef Resort residents.) Both meals were excellent and a good choice of fish, forget the " reef fish " you see on some menus and go for Spanish Mackerel or Barramundi up here.

Oak & Vine at Oaks Resort

We hoped to redeem this offer at lunch on Monday 8 June 2026. It was not to be, the promotion is only available at Dinner from Tuesday to Saturday. No matter we had lunch: Battered Flathead, chips and salad: $34 Beef and Bacon Burger:  $25 Washed down by a glass of Shiraz; $9 and a bottle of Pinot Grigio; $51 Lunch was good but complicated. We had to order from the pool bar and then move up to the Oak & Vine restaurant to use glasses instead of plastic for the wines. Lunch was delivered promptly from the other restaurant, the Lillypad, which was not open, by the pool attendant, because the Oak & Vine was also not open? Clearly displayed.

Lunch at the Tin Shed top deck

Dickson's Inlet from the outside deck. The Tin Shed Burger $23 member. $27 visitor. Battered Mackerel with chips and salad $31 member. $36 visitor. The Tin Shed in Wharf Street is a favourite with locals and visitors alike.  Drinks are competitively priced for instance; Rothbury Estate Semillion Sauvignon Blanc bottle is $28 and Great Northern Super Crisp $6.20

Choochooz at the Marina

This is our first review since Covid and typically we have chosen "Fish and Chips" and a Beef Burger.  Not always but very often.  As a retired couple we dine out at lunch at least once a week. Choochooz did not  disappoint; the burger was good and the fish and chips equally as good. Super Crisp stubby - $9.00 Little Angels Sauvignon Blanc bottle - $45 Bosworth Pinot Noir glass - $11.00 Angus Burger - $25 Battered Mackerel & Chips - $35 Payment surcharge - $1.50 Total - $126.50

Restaurant Ziva - 18 - 20 Macrossan Street

Eggs Benedict Poached Eggs, Spinach, Hollandaise Sauce, English Muffin with Bacon or Smoked Salmon or Avocado - $16.50 I am sorry I didn't get all the prices when we were there on Christmas Day. We enjoyed the breakfast and put it up there with the best in Port Douglas. A little while back we did a survey of breakfast places and put Cafe Fresq at the top. Restaurant Ziva is on an equal footing with Cafe Fresq so much so we have been back.

Ramada Resort - 316 Port Douglas Road

Our first lunch for the year. We have been here twice before and welcomed the new look furniture. Of course fish and chips (Tempura) for me - $18 With a very expensive bottle of wine - $45 That is too much when you are dining casually on plastic furniture and plastic plates. It was a good Sauvignon Blanc but really for a lunch it should have been about $25 not $45. The fish and chips were OK, I wish they would use Spanish Mackerel instead of Coral Trout but for $18 sit down it was OK. The Steak Sandwich was very good - $22 With a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon - $9 We considered lunch was good and when you think of places in this neck of the woods, Silkara Lagoons, Reef Resort and the Oaks Resort, the Ramada is the clear winner. More on the wine.  A couple of days later we had the same wine at a restaurant in Mossman for $25 per bottle, not $45 like the Ramada and we were not sitting on plastic furniture and eating off plastic plate...

Paddy's Irish Hotel - Macrossan Street

What we particularly like is that, unlike most restaurants in Port Douglas, they have some wines under $30.  Still not bad for a good lunch - $83.20 Brought to you by: Port Douglas Budget Dining .

The Tin Shed - Wharf Street

DAVE'S TAKEAWAY - 3/35 Macrossan Street

Dave's Takeaway - a Port Douglas institution. Continuing our Sunday breakfast survey we stopped at Dave's on 17 Nov 19. We opted for the Egg and Bacon roll with coffee for $10. This one's a winner, it was good all the way round and the price was superb. Brought to you by Cheap Eats Port Douglas

The Little Larder - Portico Building, 17/53-61 Macrossan Street.

If you are following this blog you can see we have been doing a lot of Sunday breakfasts lately.  For years The Little Larder has been considered the best breakfast place in Port Douglas.  It's roots go back to Soul & Pepper at Pier 319 years ago. We got there on a Sunday morning at the advertised start time of 7:30am.  This was done to avoid the queues. We ordered Eggs Bennie with bacon, The Original Onesie with extra bacon and coffees. The coffees came first and were quite cool. By 8 o'clock the place was filling up and the two chefs were getting their orders out but the wait staff weren't getting them to the patrons quickly. It was quite noticeable. When we got our order the Original Onesie egg was cold.  Then I had a fight on my hands to eat the Eggs Bennie.  I know meals are put in stacks these days but I had trouble with the stack.  Firstly I dug the bottom Ciabatta slice out and put it alongside the ...
