Lure at the marina.

This is a photograph I took on 14 Aug 2014 when we rode our bikes into town.
I put it on this blog and accompanied it with this caption:

Between 3pm and 6pm on Sundays:
$6 fish & chips
Yalumba Pinot Grigio $30

If that doesn't say and do something for Port Douglas I don't know what will so I submitted it to Bindu Travel Apps when I used to write for them.
It was knocked back by the newly appointed Australian editor, from memory, she said "fish and chips can be found anywhere". I was the local writer, the editor was based in Brisbane and had visited Port Douglas once before. Sound familiar?

We have dined at Lure for breakfast which was about as good as it can get and yesterday we had lunch. Starting with ice cold light Great Northern draft.

Studying the menu takes time and as there was a cruise ship in I tried to speed things up. I needn't have worried because the service was on the mark despite the marina being packed, the beer arrived in a flash and the waiter returned to the bar with our wine choice (Sauvignon Blanc) whilst we decided on lunch.
We selected Swordfish with Mediterranean Salad and the Smoked Salmon Burger.

The wine was already here and the plates arrived together and on time.

The Smoked Salmon Burger was stupendous and reminded both of us of Gravlax which is a higher quality smoked salmon not widely found in Australia.
Turkish Pide, Salmon, Dill Aioli, Rocket, Capers, Cucumber and served with fries.

The Swordfish was as expected and suited the salad perfectly.
Grilled Swordfish, Cherry Tomatoes, Olives, Spanish Onion, roasted Peppers, Feta, Rocket and Romesco Salsa.

Swordfish with Mediterranean Salad $26

Smoked Salmon Burger $20

Redbank Sauvignon Blanc $33

Two Great Northern Lights $12

A quality lunch with drinks in Port Douglas for under $100 is achievable if you go to the right place.

What we particularly like is that, unlike most restaurants in Port Douglas, they have some wines under $30.  Still not bad for a good lunch - $83.20 Brought to you by: Port Douglas Budget Dining .

Port Douglas Cheap Eats goes live..........

Cheap eats Port Douglas community website app goes live and we are calling on those cafes and restaurants that made the cut to enhance their listings to help pay for the app. All it takes is a $1 per week. A representative from Cheap Eats today remarks: " We do not get paid for making Port Douglas a good place for visitors to come to. Just one restaurant could make a big difference for just $1 per week ." See Cheap Eats Port Douglas:  cheapeats.portdouglas.website .

Ramada Resort - 316 Port Douglas Road

Our first lunch for the year. We have been here twice before and welcomed the new look furniture. Of course fish and chips (Tempura) for me - $18 With a very expensive bottle of wine - $45 That is too much when you are dining casually on plastic furniture and plastic plates. It was a good Sauvignon Blanc but really for a lunch it should have been about $25 not $45. The fish and chips were OK, I wish they would use Spanish Mackerel instead of Coral Trout but for $18 sit down it was OK. The Steak Sandwich was very good - $22 With a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon - $9 We considered lunch was good and when you think of places in this neck of the woods, Silkara Lagoons, Reef Resort and the Oaks Resort, the Ramada is the clear winner. More on the wine.  A couple of days later we had the same wine at a restaurant in Mossman for $25 per bottle, not $45 like the Ramada and we were not sitting on plastic furniture and eating off plastic plate...
