Exciting new restaurant?

I have written about restaurants in this one location many times and I have done that because different restaurants just pop up there. I am talking about the Portico building in Macrossan Street and please do not confuse the well established Zinc Restaurant on the corner of Davidson Street. So why is there such a high turnover of restaurants at the other corner, the corner with Owen Street? The location is surrounded by accommodation options, it is in Macrossan Street with lots of foot traffic and there is free off-street parking underneath. So what goes wrong? I put it down to the price of the wine. My wife and I dined at the Pasta Company when it first opened up there this year. We had the special which was a pasta dish and a glass of wine for $20 at lunch time.  My pasta was very good, my wife's pasta was OK and the wine was excellent. To have another glass of wine is where the problem started. $10 for 150 mills is too much especially at lunch time. We asked for t...

Pizza in the park - Macrossan Street

I am posting this as a promotion for the Port Douglas Cheap Eats website .  I like pizza and I like the park. We dine out in port Douglas frequently but the cheap eats help us enjoy other dining options. There are three take away pizza places in Port Douglas village but the closest to Market Park is Domino's in the Port Village Centre where Coles is. There are also two bottle shops in the same complex. Talk about budget, Domino's do $5 pizzas: And you can order by phone. .

N17 Burger Co - 1/22 Macrossan Street

Lunch time Burgers One of the things that attracted us the most was the fact that N17 Burger Co is BYO for wine. They also have a beer and cider bottle licence. We started with a Peroni mid-strength - $6. Then some burgers; mine being BBQ Bacon Cheese Burger - $11.50, left above and my partner's being Cheese Burger - $12.50, right above. A side of Sweet Potato Fries - $5. Everything arrived on time and piping hot with plenty of serviettes and hand wipes to finish. We brought our own Wolf Blass Cabernet Sauvignon for a corkage fee of $4. Verdict There is a lot to like about this place and for a Macrossan Street Eatery good value for money. We found the Cheese Burger the best and enjoyed the Sweet Potato Fries. Considering the cost of the wine, our lunch came to slightly less than $50. We will return.

Choo Choos at the Marina

Formally "Hogs Breath Cafe",  Choo Choos at the Marina is a bright airy cafe overlooking the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina at the Bally Hooley Station. In no time at all the locals have started patronising it. We tried breakfast on Friday 17 November 2017 "Big Breakfast - $19" "Huevos Rancheros - $15" Choo Choos at the Marina connects with Choo Choos at St Crispins which is another cafe on the Bally Hooley train line. Both cafes are also connected by the Choo Choo Explorer . Choo Choos at the Marina - Website

SASSI CUCINA - cnr Macrossan and Wharf Streets

One of our popular lunch spots in Macrossan Street is Sassi's opposite ANZAC Park. For lunch we like good value and to be able to dine at a high end restaurant for a reasonable cost is always a pleasure. To keep the prices down we order the house wine which comes in a half litre carafe for $13. The white is Pinot Grigio and the red is Shiraz. Sardines, not out of a can but honest to good salt preserved sardines on ciabatta with garlic, light chilli, parsley and of course the salt that the sardines come in. Teams perfectly with the house white Pinot Grigio. Enter the main course - Pizza and the house red. Pizza - Napolitana - $24 With a light beer and a gin and tonic - $87 the lot.
